Quobba and Carvarvon

Did I just say we may have left Coral Bay too early?

Quobba is renowned as one of the best rock fishing destinations in Australia so with the promise of a guaranteed catch and beach camping with fires we decided to take the detour with balloons, floats and a long gaff to check it out. Even though it had been blowing solid souwesterleys all day we hoped for a protected site behind the dunes...On the way to the camp we visited the "blowholes".

"The sea was angry that day my friends, like an old man trying to return soup at a deli"

A quick search of the nearby camp area unveiled no wind protected spots and a derelict shanty town full of long term shacks, not terribly inviting unless your looking to replicate mad max. Unable to fish and too windy to have a fire :(

Ves, Tim and Christine under the lighthouse discussing the next move...

We got back on the road and pulled into Carnavon and into the first caravan park we saw. On the drive from reception to our site we successfully tackled the Gibb River Road - surprisingly without incident and kids being I'll.

Kids did some drawing, fish for dinner, sleep, shop in the morning (good locally grown bananas) and off to Denham.

Best view of Carnavon from the rear view mirror...Yes, left Coral Bay too early.
